Education and Data Journalism Workshop by Alif Ailaan

The Centre for Excellence in Journalism in collaboration with Alif Ailaan organized the third three-day workshop on 'Education and Data Journalism' for education-beat reporters from across Pakistan. The training was held from April 5 to 7, 2018. The main trainer for this course was Asim Bashir Khan, a PhD candidate at IBA, while some sessions were conducted by Alif Ailaan team members.

The trainings focused on improving the quality of education reporting in the country. The workshop aimed to equip journalists with the tools to effectively convey the issues in the education sector to the target audience.



Panel Discussion on Religion and Politics

The Centre for Excellence in Journalism (CEJ) organized a panel discussion on 'Religion and Politics' on April 10, 2018. Bolo Bhi co-founder Farieha Aziz moderated the panel discussion. The panelists for the discussion were senior journalist and co-host Zara Hut Kay Mubashir Zaidi, founding member of Women's Action Forum Hilda Saeed and Advocate of the Supreme Court and a professor law at the S.M. Law College Zain Sheikh. This event was open for the wider journalist community, academics and the public.

The Centre for Excellence in Journalism in collaboration with Alif Ailaan organized the fourth three-day workshop on 'Education and Data Journalism' for journalists across Pakistan. The training was held from April 11 to 13, 2018. The main trainer for this course was Asim Bashir Khan, a PhD candidate at IBA. Some sessions were conducted by Alif Ailaan's team members.



DW Wellbeing Center Visit Newsrooms

During April, the Centre for Excellence in Journalism's Wellbeing Centre team visited newsrooms of different news organizations, including Aaj TV, Herald magazine and Hum News in order to spread awareness about the free, mental health counselling service being offered to journalists at IBA Main Campus. CEJ director Mr. Kamal Siddiqi, project lead Ms. Mahim Maher, project coordinator Ms. Qurat-ul-Ain Ali and clinical psychologist Dr Asha Bedar attended these visits. They shared basic information pertaining to the counselling service. Mr. Siddiqi stressed upon the confidentiality of the service while Dr Bedar highlighted some key symptoms that journalists overlook while working. Pamphlets with information on setting up appointments for counselling were distributed among the journalists.
