Panel Discussion on "Child Sexual Abuse"
The Centre for Excellence in Journalism (CEJ) organized a panel discussion on child sexual abuse on February 1, 2018. Bolo Bhi co-founder Farieha Aziz, moderated the panel discussion. The panelists for discussion were Shirkat Gah-Women's Resource Centre Bodily Rights programme director Sarah Zaman, high court advocate Maliha Zia Lari, clinical psychologist Dr Asha Bedar and National Commission on Human Rights member Anis Haroon.
Basics of Editing Course
The Centre for Excellence in Journalism and the British High Commission launched the first-ever Basics of Editing course leading up to a standardized test and certification. The trainer for the course was Mr. Nizamuddin Siddiqui of Dawn and Ms. Razeshta Sethna, also of Dawn, was the co-trainer. The course was followed by a test on February 20, 2018, which was held in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad.
Book Launch of "My Dawn Years" by Ms. Zubeida Mustafa
The Centre for Excellence in Journalism (CEJ) organized a book launch for Ms. Zubeida Mustafa's book "My Dawn Years" at the CEJ on February 14, 2018.
The Centre for Excellence in Journalism (CEJ) organized a photo exhibition of two esteemed members of the Karachi Press Club, Athar Khan and Naeem Sahoutara on February 19, 2018. The exhibition included photos and feature stories that Athar and Naeem have documented during their journey through India and Sri Lanka as part of a collaborative project with the East-West Center's Journalist Exchange between India and Pakistan, funded by the US Embassy in Islamabad. The consul general of Sri Lanka, Mr. G.L. Gnanatheva, graced the occasion with his presence. Susan Kreifels from the East West Center and Krish Das, spokesperson of the US Consulate also attended.
Panel Discussion on Child Sexual Abuse and Role of Media
A follow-up panel discussion on child sexual abuse and the role of media was organized by the CEJ February 20, 2018. Bolo Bhi co-founder Farieha Aziz moderated the discussion between Dawn columnist and Zara Hut Kay co-host Zarrar Khuhro, Women's Action Forum activist Nazish Brohi, Daily Express Urdu editor Tahir Najmi and broadcast journalist and media trainer Najia Ashar.
Reporting on Delimitation Workshops across Pakistan
The Centre for Excellence in Journalism (CEJ) in collaboration with TABEER – Consolidating Democracy in Pakistan (CDIP) launched its 'Reporting on Delimitation Workshops'. A total of 10 workshops were held in Karachi, Peshawar, Hyderabad, Islamabad, Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan and Quetta between February 26 to March 8. The trainers for these workshops were senior elections experts Shabir Ahmed and Saleem Akhtar, former news director Aaj TV Aamer Ahmed Khan and Daily Jang Peshawar resident editor Arshad Aziz Malik.
Basics of Reporting Course
The Centre for Excellence in Journalism and the British High Commission launched the first-ever Basics of Reporting course leading up to a standardized test and certification. Training for Basics of reporting course was held from February 26 to March 2, 2018. The trainer for the course was former Pakistan Bureau Chief for Bloomberg News Ms. Naween Mangi. The follow-up test was held on March 6 in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad.
