MSJ open house
The Centre for Excellence in Journalism conducted an Open House on May 2, 2018, for their Master's in Journalism (MSJ) program. The Open House was an opportunity for students and their parents to learn more about the MSJ program, the admissions procedure and scholarship opportunities. The CEJ faculty members were present to share their input on the program.
Media Presentation Workshop for Sanofi-aventis
The Centre for Excellence in Journalism conducted a media skills development workshop for six corporate executives of Sanofi-aventis pharmaceutical company on May 8, 2018. This workshop was conducted by journalist and anchorperson Najia Ashar and CEJ director Kamal Siddiqi delivered a lecture on Pakistan's media landscape and ethics.
The aim of the workshop was to train executives on how to communicate on behalf of Sanofi about the company and its products on social media while protecting the company's image and reputation. Participants were explained different forms of interviews: both for social media and electronic media and were given tips on how to prepare for interviews. The participants were also given hands-on training on their interview skills through simulations in CEJ's TV studio.
Panel Discussion on Breaking the Silence on Sexual Harassment
The Centre for Excellence in Journalism conducted a panel discussion on 'Breaking the Silence on Sexual Harassment' on May 10, 2018. The session was moderated by Farieha Aziz, a journalist and co-founder of a digital rights group Bolo Bhi. The panelists included scholar and activist Afiya Shehrbano Zia, Sindh High Court advocate Sara Malkani, CEJ lecturer Shahzeb Ahmed, Dawn assistant editor Razeshta Sethna and writer and member of the collective Girls at Dhabas Sadia Khatri.
Humanitarian Reporting Workshop in Islamabad
The CEJ collaborated with the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) to conduct a two-day workshop on Humanitarian Reporting for journalists from Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir. This training was held from May 11 to 12, 2018 at Islamabad Hotel in Islamabad. The training was led by Sharjeel Shahzad, a communication professional dedicated to the field of development, with guest lectures delivered by clinical psychologist Zaofishan Qureshi, National Disaster Management Authority spokesperson and operations member Brigadier Mukhtar and ICRC Pakistan Communications Coordinator/Spokesperson Najum Abbasi.
The Centre for Excellence in Journalism (CEJ) in collaboration with TABEER – Consolidating Democracy in Pakistan (CDIP) announced Delimitation Awards for journalists who attended the 'Reporting on Delimitation' workshops conducted in February and March 2018. Content was judged for its originality, quality of work and application of material taught in the workshop and submissions were considered in Urdu, English and any other regional language. Mr. Muhammad Adnan of Baluchistan Voices won the first prize while Henna Saeed of BBC Urdu was the runner-up.
