Climate Week Karachi 2026 Inauguration Ceremony | January 2026

The Center for Excellence in Journalism (CEJ) at IBA Karachi served as an academic partner for Climate Week Karachi 2026, contributing to a citywide initiative focused on climate awareness, dialogue, and action.

As part of this partnership, CEJ hosted the opening ceremony of Pakistan’s first Climate Week, marking the beginning of a series of conversations and initiatives centered on the theme “Tides of Tomorrow: Imagination, City, Future.” The event brought together journalists, researchers, practitioners, and climate advocates to reflect on the role of knowledge, storytelling, and public discourse in addressing the climate crisis.

In collaboration with the Climate Action Center (CAC) and PRIED, CEJ also co-hosted a two-day Green Journalism Workshop aimed at strengthening climate reporting in Pakistan. The workshop provided a focused platform for practicing and aspiring journalists to engage with climate issues through the lens of public interest journalism.

The sessions were led by Shahzeb Jillani, Director of CEJ, Badar Alam, CEO of PRIED, and Yasir Darya, Director of the Climate Action Center, who guided participants on climate storytelling, reporting on local environmental realities, and the responsibility of journalism in informing public debate.
