Dr. Amir Hamza Marwan received his doctorate in Journalism Studies in 2016 from the prestigious University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom. Before that, he graduated with Honors from the University of Peshawar with a master’s in journalism and mass communication. He remained a fellow in the esteemed IVLP program, supported by the US State Department.
Dr. Hamza is a passionate educator committed to fostering the intellectual growth of the next generation of journalists and students studying journalism. His main areas of teaching and research include terrorism studies, political communication, conflict studies, gender and media, media freedom and censorship, media and populism, and new media and society
Dr. T. Emre Yildirim is a scholar in Mass Communication Sciences with extensive experience in both academia and the media industry. He holds a BA in TV & Video Production (Emerson College, USA), an MA in Educational Media & Technology (Boston University), and a Ph.D. in Communication Sciences (Marmara University).
His media career includes roles at Paramount Studios (Hard Copy), Cambridge Cable TV, and Dogus Media (CNBC-e, NTV, National Geographic Magazine). Academically, he has taught at universities in Turkey, the UAE, the Bahamas, and China.
Since Fall 2024, Dr. Yildirim has been an Associate Professor at IBA, contributing to the BS in Social Sciences & Liberal Arts and the MS in Journalism programs. His research focuses on media ethics, emerging technologies, and global media innovations.
Shahzeb Ahmed Hashim is a lecturer of digital news reporting and data journalism. He started his career in journalism with The Express Tribune, a Pakistan-based English language national daily affiliated with the New York Times. He also worked for national daily Dawn, where he was part of the core team responsible for bringing out the front, back and international pages.
More recently, he joined Dawn.com — the digital wing of Dawn — as an Editorial Consultant, where he heads the special features desk.
Ahmed has also reported on a range of issues in the fields of health, science, politics, crime, urban issues etc., besides working on special reports during elections and budget announcements.
He graduated with a Masters in Journalism from the Medill School of Journalism, Northwestern University in June 2017.
Tehmina Qureshi is a graduate of the Columbia Journalism School and works as a freelance editor in Karachi and Islamabad. She has worked with Dawn, BBC Urdu, The News and The Express Tribune among other publications in Pakistan. She has a vast portfolio of editing and reporting projects on human rights, extremism, education, health and environment issues.
Zebunnisa Burki has been a journalist for more than 20 years now. She currently works as the op-ed editor and the editor of the business magazine at The News, where she also reports on political developments and does legal and news analyses for the paper. She has been teaching at the Aga Khan University's HASS programme as visiting faculty since 2015.
Other than journalism and teaching, she is also a freelance editor and consultant for journalism and development projects. As a trained lawyer, she also taught A-level law in Lahore earlier in her career.
Zebunnisa's research interests include journalism in a post-truth world; the rise of digital media and consequences on journalistic work; and most recently the question of how to decolonize journalism. She has an MSc in Politics and Communication from the London School of Economics and Political Science, an LLB from Punjab University, and an MA in Mass Communication from Kinnaird College, Lahore.
Muhammad Raheel has had extensive experience in both print and electronic media of Pakistan. He got his start as a producer in Express News where he oversaw all aspects of documentary programming, business shows and talk shows.
In print he has been a regular contributor for Dawn, The News, The Nation, Daily Times, Newsline with a specially syndicated piece also featured in Indian news agency Scroll.In.
In Academia he has taught at the leading universities of Pakistan including the Institute of Business Administration MS Journalism and SZABIST Media Sciences Degree program.
Yumna Fatima is currently completing her PhD in International Relations at American University, Washington DC. In 2020-21, she was also a USIP-Minerva Peace and Security Scholar. Prior to that, she graduated with distinction from Queen Mary, University of London, with a MA in International Relations. Her research interests focus on conflict studies, political violence, and terrorism.
Fatima has a background in journalism as well, having served as city editor at The Express Tribune, a Pakistan-based English national daily.
