Climate change is one of the defining challenges of our time, demanding informed, accurate, and compelling journalism.
The Center for Excellence in Journalism (CEJ) at IBA Karachi hosted the Green Journalism Workshop under the umbrella of Karachi Climate Week 2026, creating a focused learning space for journalists seeking to strengthen their coverage of climate and environmental issues.
The workshop brought together practicing and aspiring journalists from diverse professional backgrounds to explore the evolving landscape of climate reporting. Through interactive sessions and discussions, participants examined how local climate realities intersect with communities, governance, and development, while learning approaches to translate complex environmental challenges into clear and impactful stories.
Sessions were led by Badar Alam, CEO of PRIED, and Shahzeb Jillani, Director of CEJ, who shared insights from their experience in environmental and public interest journalism. The trainers guided participants on reporting climate issues with depth, context, and narrative clarity, emphasizing the importance of connecting global climate debates with local realities.
By equipping journalists with practical tools and perspectives for climate reporting, the Green Journalism Workshop aimed to strengthen the media’s role in advancing public understanding of environmental challenges and encouraging meaningful dialogue on climate action.
