Is the Age of Objective Journalism Over? Insights from the 6th Razia Bhatti Memorial Lecture | February 2025

The Center for Excellence in Journalism (CEJ) hosted the 6th Razia Bhatti Memorial Lecture, continuing its annual tradition of honoring the legacy of the renowned journalist and fearless editor Razia Bhatti. The lecture series was established to celebrate her commitment to fearless journalism and to encourage thoughtful discussions on the evolving role of the media.

Titled “Is the Age of Objective Journalism Over?”, this year’s lecture featured veteran journalist Zahid Hussain, who examined the challenges and shifting realities of contemporary journalism. Drawing on decades of experience in reporting and analysis, he explored how changing political climates, digital media ecosystems, and the rapid flow of information have influenced journalistic practices and public trust in news.

The event formed part of CEJ’s ongoing mission to create spaces where experienced journalists and aspiring media professionals could engage in meaningful dialogue. The lecture encouraged participants to consider the responsibilities of the press and the future of objective reporting in an increasingly complex media landscape
