The Center for Excellence in Journalism at IBA Karachi hosted a dynamic screenwriting workshop led by U.S. trainer Ivan Eubanks, offering participants an in-depth introduction to storytelling techniques rooted in American cinematic traditions.
Throughout the workshop, participants explored the craft of screenwriting through the close study of influential films and television. Drawing inspiration from the works of filmmakers such as Clint Eastwood and Stanley Kubrick, the sessions examined how powerful narratives are constructed for the screen. Participants also analyzed well-known productions including The Social Network and the acclaimed television series Breaking Bad to understand the elements that make stories compelling and memorable.
The hands-on sessions focused on developing essential skills such as dialogue writing, character development, and professional script formatting used in the film and television industry. Participants applied these techniques by developing their own original scripts while receiving practical guidance on how to structure narratives that connect with diverse audiences.
Organized in collaboration with the U.S. Consulate General Karachi and Regional English Language Office Islamabad, the workshop supported emerging storytellers and aspiring writers in refining their creative voice and strengthening their ability to craft impactful stories for the screen.
