The Center for Excellence in Journalism at IBA Karachi, in collaboration with UNESCO Pakistan, hosted a focus group discussion in Karachi with representatives of local media organizations.

The dialogue brought together media practitioners to examine key challenges facing local media, including long term sustainability, inclusivity in newsroom practices, and access to reliable information. Participants shared experiences from their respective organizations and reflected on the evolving role of local media in an increasingly complex information environment.

The discussion also reaffirmed the vital role that local media organizations play in amplifying marginalized voices, strengthening community engagement, and countering disinformation at the grassroots level.

Insights gathered during the session will inform upcoming capacity building initiatives led by CEJ and UNESCO, aimed at strengthening the resilience, impact, and sustainability of local media organizations across Pakistan.
